Ive been living this way since 1937.Mom and Dad went through the depression.Dad said the WPA was a help but most jobs went to married men with children.I would take silver coins in payment. With silver a 33 bucks an oz I would give a 1/4 cord of green firewood for the coin.I would have to trade with some one who understands the value of silver or sell it for scrap value.Would the owner of the corner store give me 10 gallons of gas for the coin ?.NO Thats the problem with owning silver and gold.We use Canadian coins in trade here with no problem. If you took them to the bank several years ago you would have lost 40%.Most stores in the city will take Canadian paper money at face value. You could use 3/8 flat washers as money as long as all parties agreed on its value. The town I live in used scrip money during the depression.A man who had cash bought it at a discount and held it because he knew the town would redeem it.Surrounding towns took the scrip money but further away it was worthless. Some states are wanting to print their own currency.Barter will work fine.
