: Our Model-G does not have a light switch or lights. Is there a way to properly charge the battery without it? : Thanks, : Ray Fagan : Pascagoula, Mississippi My G was the same way - the 3 way switch was gone (probably it had gone bad), and the field terminal of the generator had been grounded, which put out full charge (about 13 Amps). I just rewired mine using a DPDT center off toggle switch. Connect one side so that the resistor between the field terminal and ground (I used 2.5 ohm, 24 W power resistor) is shorted in either on position. Use the other side like a SPST switch for the lights, if you add them (I am going to). You end up with the center position being low charge, on one way high charge, on the other way lights + low charge. This seems to work pretty well. Interestingly enough, I can hear a difference in the tone of the engine at idle between high and low charge. P.S. I bought an old switch from a junk yard, just to find out the proper resistance value. I measured 3 ohms. I chose 2.5 to give it a little bit more charge (I scrounged 2 5 ohm 12 W power resistors which I put in parallel). The current I measured through the resistor was about 1.5 Amps, but the 24 W keeps the resistor running cool.
