Looking at my steel book, a 2" HSS square tube and a 2" Diameter pipe (2.38" actual) are approximately similar strength with similar (close) thicknesses. For what you are planning to do I don't think it will make much of a difference. If you had actual dimensions of the material you are planning to use I could give a better answer. From a strictly theoretical standpoint a 2" square with the same thickness as a 2" round section would be slightly stronger in most loading cases.
