When it says in the manual to grease once per season, there's a reason for that so don't give it a shot of grease every time you walk by it. I have always greased every zerk every 10 hours on my 750 Massey combine. Logic says if a little is good then a lot is better. WRONG Over the years I have been getting less and less travel on the variable cylinder sheaves. Last year I could not get the high speed I need for threshing wheat. Granted the belt was worn to the replace limit but that still did not explain why sheaves won't travel all there range. Took the pulley apart and found the tracks that the sheave runs it packed full of dried up grease and dust. It was packed in there harder then cement. Cleaned it out and gave it a light coat of lube. Put back together and new belt and it works better then it ever has. What have we learned here? FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!!!!
