I'm not southern either so don't have citrus either. Where I live does have a nice long gardening season though of about 180-200 days, which means we will soon be planting.
I'm of the opinion you are hardy stock if you can live in Maine or other NORTH areas. I have Maine roots in my heritage, but they left there about 1830 or so. Some day I hope to visit the Gorham area.
