I did something simular to that we were on our way to Nags Head going south on 95 ,and there was a construction area ahead traffic was at a dead stop. I was talking to Northbound traffic and they said it was solid for 8 mile ahead of me and most wasn't taking turns to enter the one lane section. My buddy was ahead of me pulling his camper and I moved over into the other lane, and stayed beside him. big trucks got the same idea and pretty soon my lane was empty ahead of me. looking back as far as I could see the big trucks were moving the same speed as I was but we were spaced pretty far apart. closest to me was at least a hundred yards-- wasn't long we were up to 40 mph an still lots of space between the right lane. We got few one fingered salutes as we came out of the construction area, and was being passed by faster traffic. most were smiling and waving. if every one didn't think they had to get there first there would be no hang ups at those places. usually they must not be able to read cause there are signs at least a mile before telling you to merge over -- not pass everyone ya can to create that bottleneck.
