Nice calf.
Actually the red color is a recessive gene to the dominant black gene. IIRC from college the calf being red indicates that both your bull and your cow have the recessive red gene. This is how the red breeds such as Red Angus,Red Brangus & etc got established.
Since you're showing off your calf I'll post a photo of my crossbred calf from a Corriente 1st calf heifer(horns removed) and Black Angus bull.
