I have found that if I grind cob corn to corse and feed steers in the feed bunk they will pick through it and not eat the cob. Guess they got nothing better to do. Also I keep feed in front of them 24-7. I grind it a little finer when I feed that way. When I'm feeding them in a self feeder they don't seem to pick through it as they don't have as much feed in front of them at one time. My biggest screen is about one inch which I never use. I use the 3/4 and 1/2 inch most of the time. Shelled corn I run through without a screen at all. I have a JD grind-mixer which I don't think would make a difference.
