I agree that the news media focus on the sensational. Watching one of the "talking heads" interview some guy who wrote a book, it was obvious the underlying tone of their conversation was "nuclear bad", lets go hug a tree. But to put it in perspective, this disaster will probably do less damage than what we did on purpose to them at the end of WWII. I'm not knocking us for dropping the bombs, just saying they WILL recover.
The thing about the new media is that they are the perfect "Monday Morning Quarterback" with perfect hindsight the day after something happens. The abhor ALL risk that we take for any good. If a bridge collapses, they'll scream that there should have been more inspections. If someone shoots someone in a grocery store, they scream for gun control. After Katrina, they wanted to crucify anyone that had anything to do with the levee system or scream for heads to roll if water wasn't delivered to a town within minutes of the hurricane. I remember one picture very vividly: A reporter was doing his live broadcast in waders with the backdrop of a water filled area behind him and I got the impression that he was in the middle of the flood. Later, someone showed the full scene where he was standing in a dry parking lot and the live shot was only from the waist up. LOL. Yup, I quit taking the media seriously long time ago. It's all about ratings and truth be dam-ed.
And nice to see some short technical discussion from B & D. Interesting stuff.
