As Tom said, location will affect your decision. I'm in WI, and use a clover blend for pasture. Has mostly Marathon red clover, but also alsyke, ladino (sp?), and timothy... maybe one other type. I've also used a mix that replaced about 1/2 the clovers with alfalfa, but it was more expensive, and I rotate pastures every two years, so I went back to the clover mix. For a quicker pasture, maybe try a cover crop with the grass/legume... oats, peas and triticale, etc. Winter rye makes a good, quick pasture, but it's too late for that now.
