Back in the Mid-80s Deere introduced this chopper as an answer to their competition; New Holland had put out a similar large capacity pull-type chopper. The idea was to attract that large farm who had a high hp (250-300) articulated tractor and put it to work chopping, while adding a larger capacity chopper that could handle 4-rows as opposed to 3. They basically took the chopper units from Deere"s self-propelled chopper at the time (5720) and put it on a beefed up pull-type frame. I too had the same reaction when I discovered this chopper. My friends owned a John Deere dealer from the early "60s - the early "90s and they filled me in on this information. The chopper was a flop and Deere only let very few out to dealers. I found one for sale in the state of Washington, but that"s it. I have also found some literature on them too, in which I hope to be valuable someday. Hope this helped.
