Though my grandfather was a blacksmith, and you might think backward to modernization, he owned one in 1916. He wrote the factory about the timing of the tractor, etc. and I have a letter from the factory addressed to him as well as the original owners manual.
My mother told that they used a team of horses to pull the tractor home as neither he nor his son knew how to operate it.
