I don't know if age is a factor. I've got a Sears I bought new 32 years ago. It quit running last month. After a few days, I unplugged it, vacuumed the dust etc. from around the coils, plugged it back in, still didn't run. Until about 4am the next morning when I got up to let the dogs out, I noticed it was running and cooling fine. I disconnected the ice-maker some years ago since this fridge is our back-up one, I keep beer in it for that after tractor work. So although it's old and probably inefficient, it's a keeper as long as keeps going and beats what it would cost to replace it.
