Yes, it is all in the training, and some dogs like people are easier to train then others! Did not help we have 3 young boys, makes training a lot harder for a dog that is not easily trained. Our Standard weighed 45 lbs and was strong, wily and a sly devil. We put opaque film over the bottom half of the windows so she could not see outside. She learned to push a chair by the window climb up and look over the film. Whenever you opened a door, if you forgot to first turn around and command her to stay EVEN if she was no where in sight, she would "magically" appear and without a sound bolt out the door and run after them pesky squirrels.
Hey, I had a Collie when I was a kid. Dam good dog that needed very little training. Barked at strangers, greeted family and friends. Walked without a leash about 10 feet in front of you. You stopped , she stopped. To me, that's a dog.
These SS dogs need to be crated most of the time to keep them in line. I personally never understood the sense of having a dog that needed to be crated.
