Sure they did.And probably any other site that has ongoing air quality among other environmental testing ability is picking up the air borne radiation being emitted by the melt down that the problem plants are responsible for. Japans lackadasical attitude towards their Nuclear procedures is coming around to bite them and the rest of the world too. If not for the natural event ,earthguake along with the huge tidalwaves that wiped out all electrical service and thus rendered there cooling pumps in operative, damaged the plants infrastructure and drowned the diesel generators ability to operate ,that along with the damage the huge waves caused thru out northern Japan, their non plan for a disaster would have never been known too the world as it is now.I worked at Dresden,Braidwood.LaSalle Station,Byron and Quad Cities at different times as an outage contractor and I for one know that all eventualities are constantly monitered by these plants. The one blight on the USA Nuclear effort,Three Mile Island even was quickly brought under control and deactivated and no human health had been recklessly endangered. It was an accidental event and was dealt with in the appropriate and safe way. The Japanese however have not shown ,given the knowledge they have of their small mountain top that it is prone to movement below the sea, that they have a disaster plan at all. It is unfortunate that they are devastated as they are but it is apparent they had no plan.
