We're up to our necks in ferrel hogs over here in East Texas as well. That's the first I've heard of hogs transmitting rabies to a horse though. It will be interesting to hear if this is confirmed and I'm sure it will add fuel to helping control these dang things!
I've seen feral hogs trying to suck milk from a cow and I've seen a large boar hovering around a cow giving birth. We didn't give him time to see what was to develop but I have a feeling during these dry conditions, I wouldn't put it past a wild hog to do anything for food.
