A large factory plant that I worked in had electrical bus duct running about 12' above the floor and every bay had one the length of the building. They were for 3 phase and had aluminum bars for the conductors. Over time they started having problems. They would either arc out at the duct joints or the contact point would arc out where the buss plug connected with the bars. We would move the buss plug over to the next space and re-pipe and re-wire After awhile where there was a lot of equipment in the area we would run out of spaces and would have to replace a buss section that was about 10' long. A pain in the azz especially when it was located in between beams and it was a major production disruption. Finally they bit the bullet and replaced all of the bus ducts in the entire plant with new copper ones. Think of the aggravation over the years plus the final cost of installing the new.
