Jim in Ma, You bring back a lot of memories when you mention using a tractor to pull an old horse mower. I have cut a lot of hay with a 9N Ford and a horse mower. It took two guys as one had to sit on the horse mower and raise and lower the bar on the end of the fields. It was fun riding that old mower. It was hard to keep the speed down so that we wouldn't burn out the Pitman bearing which I think was a type of babbitt and we had to keep it oiled. We did burn up a few though and then caught ell from my dad. One time my younger brother was riding the mower and the hitch on the front of the mower pole broke. The pole jammed in the ground and threw my brother right off of that thing.

I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned.
