: I am writing a novel about my uncle, who was a John Deere dealer in 1940. Can somebody tell me what all he was selling back then, other than the Model H? And here's where I show how little I know -- what did you use that Model H for, specifically? Did it come with attachments? His dealership was in Southern Ill -- lots of wheat, corn, etc. Help! Many thanks to you kind souls. In extreme Southern Illinois you can ocasionally find and older mechanic who started out by assemblying machinery during the off peak time and then worked on the equipment as needed. Start at a JD Dealer and ask for some of these older gentlement as they have lots of storys to share. If your not living in the midwest the many antique tractor events will help you redefine the past. The A may have been the most popular tractor because it handle the 25A mounted corn picker to all the equipment if could pull to grow the corn. My memoryies of the H are few but what a team of horse would pull was the common use, pull a wagon, plant and culivate 2-rows of crop abd the such.
