Dents: I strip the paint rather than trying to sand it out, hammer the dent till it is near former shape, apply bondo till near correct surface level sand down real good, put Fibreglass patch over bondo and extend to good metal on the side,When set sand real good and reapply bondo to fill any imperfections ,again sand ,prime, paint. For small rust areas,i sand blast ,coat in rust stop, cover with Fibreglass patch and when set use bondo to bring to former levels,I use a lot of red pin hole and minor dent epoxy and sand with 80 grit down to 320 grit mostly. prime and sand about 3 times generally. These methods have produced some pretty good body work for a first class paint job in the past.Large rust out areas ,a total metal replacement is in order for these areas.20 Ga. Cold rolled flat steel can be had easily or rust prone body panels are easy to aquire from Eastwood or JC Whitney.
