Actually... there are some engines that are scavenged that have a considerable amount of overlap. While I don't think it's very likely to allow sufficient flow to take out a turbo... I don't think I'd 100% rule it out either. I'd also wager that the whole pebble down the pipe theory is pretty far fetched too. You don't see too many through and through mufflers on farm tractors.... and it would be rather difficult to get anything through the maze in most of them. Water would be the biggest enemy.
