Lost our old llama this evening. Was out near the pasture and heard a commotion on the other side. Several of the sheep went running over there. I looked and llama was lying on his side, thrashing with his legs. Got over there as quickly as I could, and tried to get him upright, but was too late, he was gasping. Called wife, and she came running, just as he gave his last gasps. Donno how old he was, we"ve had him about ten years, and he was an old guy when we got him. He was doing poorly even last fall. We increased his ration of grain and he seemed to be doing better, put on some weight, and we thought he was going to be even better as the spring warmer temperatures came on. For a llama, he was easy going, fairly friendly, and gentle with the sheep. He was supposed to be a guard animal, and guess he was effective, never had any incidents of predation. He was also a source of comic relief, so he"s gonna be missed. So long Lloyd Llama. Anyone got a backhoe I could borrow over the weekend?
