I remembered reading a post the other day about advertising, etc and it got me thinking tonight when I saw a commercial for a new razor. Any of you remember the big deal made when they started making them with multiple blades? The idea as far back as I can remember has always been that the first blade caught the whisker, pulled it up, cut it, and the second one got it again before it sunk back down below the skin. This left your face "baby smooth". This same basic idea of the whisker being pulled up, etc, etc has been lauded for ages as they added more and more blades. Tonight I see a commercial for another new razor with, it looked like, five blades now.
Now what is being lauded is that the blades are so sharp that they don't tug or pull the whisker at all, unlike what the old razors did. Heck where the old commercials clearly showed the whisker being tugged up and cut twice the new one just shows the blade gliding through a whisker that showes absolutely no sign of being moved beyond the blade hitting and cutting it.
Now I ask you, is this advertising or is it advertising? The very thing that made the old razors so great now makes them not so great. Funny thing is there are guys out there that will rush out to buy the latest and greatest razor now just because their old one isn't supposed to be any good.
I guess it all goes to prove the old saying that,'there's a sucker born every minute'....
