Well put, Jerry! I very much agree with you--sure you don't want to run for high public office? We could really use people that actually THINK.
What town do you live near? I have spent some time in Missoula and St. Ignacius, where we have had relatives and friends.
I live SE of Spokane, on land that was apparently washed by the Missoula floods. I grew up on the property and was always puzzled by the area of our ranch that was exposed bedrock, while only about a mile away, the land is very different, with deep soil and no rocks at all. I also was mystified by a deep canyon a couple of miles away, that only has a small creek flowing through it, which sure didn't cut that massive canyon through the basalt. The Missoula floods answer the questions. Obviously an incredible amount of water flowed to have done the land reshaping that is visible in lots of Eastern Washington.
Could it happen again? I think it could, if another ice age occurred. The Purcell trench is still there for a glacier to flow down and block the Clark Fork river system that flows into what is now Pend Orielle Lake. Is it likely? Probably not in our lifetime...but maybe someday.
