spammers and addresses from YT

Can anyone explain to me how the dam spammers got my into my email and now are sending out crap from there without me knowing it. I get dozens of returned emails everyday that I didn't send. When this first started I deleted all my address book to protect the people I talk to and I changed my password. The email address is an internet email address,I don't give out my address through my internet provider. I set up this email address up just for use at YT .,so I know it started here.
I'm just pissed off and curious how this all works.
