Most of the H seats I have seen have a short shock just forward of the spring.

That appears to be the Monroe aftermarket hydraulic seat.

Thanks, Red...were these seats available back when the H's were being made? Maybe as an option? Anybody know?

My dad purchased a new H in 1947 that came with that seat. I always thought they were orginal equipment until The Red said they were Monroe aftermarket. I won't argue with him. Dad got it from the dealer that way, perhaps the dealer put it on. I have a 1941 H that has the same seat, but who knows how many owners it has had.

Thanks for all the comments. I think the seat must have at least been available since one of the Wisconsin Historical Society pics in Guy Fays book shows this seat. I think my grandfather said he got the seat off of an M (probably from a salvage yard). But most of the M seats I have seen, along with all other letter series, do not typically look like this. So I guess it must have been an option, maybe an aftermarket one, right from the start.

Don't know when they were available but I have seen a variation on F20s!
