IH made a little over 5 million tractors. And they've probably sent out TEN MILLION "FREE Gas caps" I really hate to see this subject come up all the time. Only difference between the OEM cap fitted at the factory on these tractors and the "Freebie" is the free one has a second catch or latching bar so You can't remove it so fast. Like Guy said in His post, the Numbered series, 300/400 and everything thru the 66-series the gas/fuel tank extended out over the back half of the engine. If the tractor was gassed up when hot there was a lot of flammable vapor released when the cap was removed. And some individual smoking a cigarette tried to gas up His tractor one day 25 yrs ago.... and the rest is history. You all enjoy Your FREE gas caps
