Just FYI, you might want to consider checking around the manifold while it is running to see if the gasket there is possibly a problem. If the manifold gasket on an A is like my 123ci Farmall 140, then the manifold has intake and exhaust side by side. And if the gasket has blown between almost any two of the ports, then you could be getting exhaust in the intake of the neighboring cylinder, in which case, valves will not function properly, and plugs would probably look dry. Be advised though, that if you pull the manifold, you'll probably lose one or both of the old gaskets, so order new ones before you ever pull it. Case / IH dealers can order these gaskets for you, and have the shipped to your house in 3-5 days.

Good Luck

Dave

Oh, and the above could cause screwy compression readings.

I am not the only one who does not see any relelvance to your post. I am trying to help the original poster by telling him what is more than likley wrong with his tractor rather than some crazy and impossible theory. Just trying to keep him from chasing his own tail here.

I really hope that the poster figures his tractor out.

That doesn't really make any sense to me either.
