What'd I do Wrong?

I replaced the manifold and exhaust on my TO30 a few days ago. The tractor was running smoothly b4 but now starts a little rough (takes more throttle) and run"s rough if I don"t give it a little extra gas. Then of course it overheats.

Did I likely knock some junk loose or is there another issue? Could I have knocked the carb or governor out of whack?

Once it got hot and then cooled, it may have needed to be re-torqued. Try torquing to specs again (while cold) and see if that solves the problem.

I think you have the tsx type carb which had some sediment which has to be removed by opening it up and blowing it out.It may need a main body gasket if you tear it up when separating it.After loosen up the four screws, tap with a hammer to break the two free from one another with out tearing the gasket.Spray some carburetor or brake cleaner on the outside before tapping it.CENTAUR

I assume you used a new or very good manifold gasket? And torqued according to the book. First thing I thing of is the possibility of an air leak around the exhaust gasket and (more importantly) a leak around the carb-gasket. This would allow TOO much air and throw the mixture off.
Try spraying starter fluid around carb to manifold joint while running and see of tractor responds...this would indicate the starter fluid being drawn into intake and there for some leaks in the gasket area.

I have three manuals. Checked each and did not find torque specs. Anyone have them for the manifold?

Find the stud size and then look up the max torque for that stud size. You can probably google up a table of torque specs. Or look in the archives. Somebody must have asked this question and got an answer before.

Yes, I used a new manifold and gaskets. But I did not torque it per the manual. I"ll double check & see if this helps.
