Conduit for PTO cable on SOS

Hey all,

The PTO feathering cable conduit on my tractor has some inner damage that doesn't allow the cable to operate smoothly. Ford has the new part (#312454) but I believe I should be able to put something together for significantly less than $60+. My cable appears to be in good shape, the current conduit appears to be brass? I know the 22.34" length is crucial, is there something I can use, possibly brake line or some other tubing to replace this conduit?

TIA Chris

Hey would you have any connection on a shifter cable for a ford 5000 with the SOS tran.? Just broke mind and not sure where to find one.
Thanks Kerry Hayes

Chris:

You should snap up that conduit while you have the chance. Some S-O-S PTO cable conduits are much much more expensive than $60 and others are no longer available.

For goodness sake, pay the $60.00 and get on with life. I have tried doing the same thing at times. Usually end up scrapping the thing I was trying to make and buying the part that was needed.

Hurley,

Thank you for the reply. I'm just getting started with this tractor and could easily have 9 more similar difficulties. That turns into hundreds of dollars. I just got a 1/4" brass tube and nuts. It has a little thinner wall, but if I can flare the ends at all and it bends ok (not a lot needed) I will have saved over $50 and not had to wait on CNH. I'll let you know how it goes.

The tube on my SOS is cad plated steel. Looks like brass. Brass will wear out pretty fast.

Hurley,

Thanks for the info. The brass tube I got is relatively thin and I can see heavy use causing wear. I'm only going to use the tractor around the "hobby" farm and don't expect to use the PTO more than 15-20 times a year. We'll see how it goes.
