The impulse works fine, I'm turning it over so the dogs won't catch as I hold it so I can spin it by hand. That is when it has an excellent spark. The question was why wont it fire when you impluse it

I agree with Mike that the bushings may be worn out. Common problem on the C after 50-60 years. The rotor bushing tube was prone to come loose also on C housings made during the war years when enough good aluminum wasn't available to the housing cast maker. Wico later replaced most of those bad housings with a new one that has a 3 on the side of housing next to the large square cover. Some of them are still out there though and didn't get replaced. If the tube has come loose inside its done and a fix won't stay. If just the bushings worn those are available new and usually need to be reamed to fit the shaft properly.

I'm going to make a WAG to this problem. Those C mags are kinda know for the rotor stem /bushing being broken or worn out so maybe ?? when it is under pressure from the spring it binds the rotor up or it's wiggling goofing up your point gap ??? Worth a double check ?
