Hi,

I have split my MF135 to replace clutch thrust bearing, and would also like to remove clutch to look at rear main seal. Does anyone know what special tool MF159A looks like, or what I can use to align the clutch and plate. Thanks.

Neil Mc

Hi Neil,
Clutch aligning tool MF159A is for the later MF135 tractor which has 10" and 12" clutch friction discs for the PTO and main clutches, according to the workshop manual.
If you have an earlier 135 with 11" and 9" friction discs, the aligning tool I borrowed from our MF dealer is the same as for the MF35: part No. MF159B/1. I do not know if the two aligning tools have the same dimensions despite their different part numbers.
Here are the clutch tools for the early 135, with dimensions:

Thanks Ian, that gives me a good idea how it should look. I plan on making something temporary, Aaron Ford's piccy looks like it might be the way.

Cheers,

I made mine out of a 1/2 inch all thread and various sockets to line everything up. If you look back at some of my posts, I described it completely, but alas, I have forgotten how I did it. I will look and see if I can find it. here is a pic anyhow. Aaron

gears on my 135 grind and sounds like I need to adjust my clutch thru the bottom opening

are those bolts in the ends of the 3 fingers the ones you adjust to set the gap at .080???

Hi Neil,
The tool is virtually a plain version of the input shafts that go into the gearbox. If you have access to a lathe it is easy to make one.
The smallest dia which goes into the flywheel bearing is essential. Ingenious people have made them from other materials besides metal. Don't forget to fit the 3 2 1/4 inch 1/4 unc bolts before removing the clutch cover.

I will caliper the inner splines and the spigot shaft and see what I can use. The 3 1/4 UNC bolts I will have to get from my nut and bolt shop, which is a goodie.

Cheers,

Neil Mc
