I'm converting my '49 8N over to 12 volts. I read the instructions that is in the research & info section and it doesn't say any thing about changing the points. I'm doing this I hope the cheap way. All I had to buy so far was the front mount 12volt coil, and making all the brackets. Are there 12volt points and condenser for this? Thanks Rich

Points and condensor will work. Personally, I would still use a resistor with the 12volt coil. The one I have says anything over about 13 volts needs a resistor. With an alternator you can climb up in voltage. Have had the same coil on for quite a few years with no problems. Another well known fellow on the board who has been known to find extraneous aluminum beverage cans about his tractor also has a 12 volt conversion with a 12 volt coil and uses a resistor. Study wiring diagrams and be sure the circuit includes a marker light or diode or your tractor will like running so much it won't shut off.

Like Claus said, save the old parts--I couldn't mine came with a conversion (sloppily done that had to be reworked).

Rich,
I am going to convert my 8n to 12 volt also. I was wondering what front mount coil did you get and where can I get one.
Thanks and good luck
Mark

If the old parts are in good shape, keep em...
