When I first got into this stuff, I faced the same dilemma. I "refurbished" my 46 2N. In doing this, I took care of all necessary mechanical issues first. So it runs great and everything works the way it should. Then I cleaned, scraped, sanded, primed and painted with attention to detail and it actually came out looking pretty good. But then, I said to myself, to keep it looking that good, I guess shouldn't use it, right? Well, to each his own so I rejected that notion and I use it for whatever it can help me with. Right now, it's got some mud on it, some horse manure on the tires, it's a little bit dusty, the carry-all has been on the back for about a month because it makes it handy and I know it doesn't look quite as good as it did the day we rolled it out of the shop after painting it. But when it's show time, I wash it thoroughly, load it on the trailer and go. It still gets lots of looks and comments and it's surprising the number of people who appreciate it because they can see that it's been refurbished but still shows signs of being used for what Henry intended it to be used for. Those guys who bring them in on trailers and take their shoes off so they don't scratch them when they unload?? I have no problem with that if that's what floats their boats. But I like to think that I have a nice looking tractor that I can drive, enjoy AND work with. My $.02. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
