And the follow-up. I"m learning here, too, and I like to know when I"m wrong OR when I"m right.

At 168K miles my Dad gave me the old '64 Dodge Station Wagon for my "airport" car. It still ran fine, but had no power and when the accelerator was "floored" it had a vibration in it.... But otherwise it ran just fine. (318 V-8 and pushbutton automatic.) At 205K miles I decided to install new dist. cap, spark plug wires and spark plugs. I called Dad and asked him when the last time he'd done that and he said about 150K...."it was right before it started that shaking under full throttle. I changed the plugs again figuring I'd bought a bad one, but that wasn't the problem."
As I pulled each spark plug wire loose I laid it out on the bench so I'd get the new one routed exactly the same.... and then I got confused....and then I read the "Firing Order" that was cast into the intake manifold and installed the new wires in accordance with that.
You know what happened. It ran perfectly for another 25K miles before I gave the car to a guy down on his luck. He was still driving it many years later.
(Yep. Switched plug wires.)
