I forgot that the filter I currently have is the oil bath type with the precleaner stack. I really want to keep the air stack for looks. JD did make a dry filter to use with the air stack, but I have never seen one or been able to find one. I guess they were kinda rare, and thus I would guess they might be a bit pricey.

Also, the K&N I am looking at is they type that would clamp onto the end of a pipe. The flange is 3 inces around. The filter is cone shaped, and measures 9 inches long, 6 inches around on one end and 4.5 inches around on the other.

Would this new info change any of your suggestions al all?

Well, if you are trying to talk yourself into it the K&N filter go ahead but I would only use when pulling. There is no better filtering than a good oil bath system. Why don't you rig something up to change over when pulling than back to stock for farming? Sounds to me like you use this machine for farming more than pulling so...
