Yes, the transmission update on the 88's can approach 10K, but only the low hour machines (below 3000) should have missed this update. When this has been done, you basically have the guts of a magnum trans. In theory the reverse air is a good thing, increases air flow because it is better to pull rather than push thru the radiator. But I assume they sized components to account for the better air flow. I don't know how expensive it would be to replace the radiator. I would just be sure to watch the fan shaft bearings, and probably overplay changing the antifreeze. We bought a 5288 with 2400 hrs for $18K four years ago, and have been happy with it. In my opinion the cab is not much better than the 86 series. Cold starting is OK but nothing special. I would have a 110 outlet nearby to plug it in if you want to start below 30F. Ether would work, but we don't like to use it.
