Depending on your intended use of the sprayer (herbicide, insecticide or pesticide), as the previous post sugggested, the tank can be mounted on the tractor and a pump mounted to the PTO. I would not mount a tank larger than 50 gallons on the "A". Stability problems will occur. Most herbicide PTO sprayers require less HP to operate than the "A" produces. A trailer mounted sprayer pulled by the tractor and driven by a PTO shaft is the most simple way to operate a herbicide sprayer on a tractor without a 3 pt. hitch. The boom can be fabricated and mounted in the position of your choice or a hand wand may be sufficent. Because of the tractor weight,do not pull a large tank because of brakes and inertia. If you are condsidering a 500 gal. orchard sprayer with a fan, the Farmall "A" is about 40 HP short of driving this type of sprayer. We use a Farmall "M" with a 3 pt. to operate a 100 gal. Rears Pak Tank sprayer for weeds. Even though my "M" produces about 60 HP, we never hook up an orchard sprayer because the PTO drive capabilities are marginal in this HP range. We use either a JD 2640 (70 HP) or a JD 5510 (80 HP) for insecticide spraying.
