I too have a 400 with the TA out. The low side has an overriding clutch that engages when you go to the low side. You also have a 7” clutch that engages on the high side. The biggest trouble that cause the low side to go outs the overriding clutch goes bad when the engine kicks backwards when you shut it off with the TA in the high side. There are small rollers and ramps in the overriding clutch that get damage when this happens. This does not brother the high side. On the high side there is the 7” clutch and a set of planetary gear set. If one of these goes bad you will not move. If everything is all right with the gear set and the overriding clutch but you lose the 7” clutch, you will still have the low side. If you lose gear set you just don’t move, high or low side. I have mine apart now and going through it. New clutch, having the pressure plate refaced and looking at getting the overriding clutches redone. Wish me luck. I will let you guys know what the bill is when I'm done.
