There are three different series of serial number codes. The first was sued in the tractors in the 1920s-1930s, and was was jsut straight letters- HA meant high altitude, CNW meant Cane Narrow rear, wide front, etc. The "X" numbers were used approximately 1940-195?. They are a letter followed by a number, and then possibly followed by another letter. In the early 1950s, IH started to use another system, which is just a plain letter. There is a large number of different codes in each system.
