H carb adjustment....I need help please!

Ok, a little background. I got my great grandfather's H (1940) running last summer after it had sat for 13 years. I bought a generic off the shelf carb kit at TSC, put it all together and it ran. At one point I almost got it to run pefect, but not quite. Then, it started gasping for life. Took the carb apart and the float needle was sticking up every other time I pushed it up. So I got that solved and then it went down hill, got to the point where you had to have the choke on to keep it running, although it ran ok at that point.

Well, I decided I would go ahead and put another kit in it and take it apart and clean it "extra clean". I got it started on the 3rd revolution and brought it up here (with the choke on) and parked it to clean the carb up.(it had not been run all winter) I soaked the carb in acetone, blew out all the passages with air and got it squeaky clean. Put the kit in it and put it back together and it started on the first hit.

Now, it will run without the choke. However, it smokes a little and will cough and sputter in road gear. If I give it a little choke, it smooths out, but still smokes, black smoke.

What needs adjusted? I cleaned the fuel lines last summer and a good flow of gas flows. That is not the problem, if anything, it is using to much gas. I am running it on the starting tank and can tell just how much fuel it is using.

Will check back in a while. Gotta run into the elevator real quick. By then, the H will be cooled down and I can start over.
