I have a Woods belly mower on a Farmall C. In tough going the Farmall C really doesn't have enough power. Use a belly mower like you would a riding lawn mower and no more. Keep the grass mowed close every week or it is just too much. Someone told me that a Farmall M was too much power for a Woods belly mower. They said it continually destroyed the long drive belt. The belt costs $80 or so. There are some belly mowers that have a deep deck and some use more gear boxes and drive shafts rather than just a belt. On an M these might work better. The woods are great finish mowers but not built to mow over-grown waterways. Also a belly mower on a Farmall C lets one wheel travel behind the mower deck so you are driving on mowed grass. How would the wheels run on a Farmall M? You can get them to work on a Farmall M .... just watch your power. Also the M would not be as nice to drive in close quarters and weight would tear up the turf more than a lighter tractor. Once you get everything set up although, it will be cheaper and last ages longer than an expensive riding mower!
