With the lights on and the generator/alternator not charging, neg. 10 amps may be correct. If the gauge was backwards would not the system show a charge with the lights on? I think so. Without the engine running turn the lights on, a negative reading should be correct. Positive reading would indicate incorrect routing of wiring or that the system is reversed.
