Not true Rob. The grease fitting is in the metal retainer that holds the carbon bearing. There is a weep hole opposite the fitting for excess grease to squeeze out. There is no path for grease to get onto the spline ( or slide as you call it ) . And besides you don't want to grease the spline as graese holds dirt and grit and carbon dust which will gum up the works.John
