You said that you have it all cleaned up and ready to paint. I know it is not the most popular method but you can drain the gas out and use a little bit of cold weld compound to plucg the hole and then procede like you normally would with any sheet metal work. Sand sand sand. In the end I believe you are better off that way than if you use a sealer. After 15 or 20 years the cold weld will still be there. The sealer will more than likely be in the bottom of you sediment bulb. Whatever you do be safe and always enjoy that good old RED IRON
