The axle has to be pressed out. I have a small 12-ton shop press that is ideal for this purpose. The inner cone bearing is pressed onto the axle shaft. This prevents the axle from sliding out out of the housing. I have heard of a person taking a piece of plate steel, drilling holes to match the 5/8" tapped holes on the inside of the casting, and taking 5/8" bolts, tightening them evenly as the plate presses the axle off of the bearing and out the other side of the casting.
