6V or 12V polarity

I've read several posts about how to convert 6V to 12V etc. However I have a question concerning 6V pos gnd to 12V neg ground conversions. If one goes from pos gnd to neg gnd doesn't that weeken the spark by making the spark originate from the cast block vs the coil?? In other words, would this make the spark jump from the case of the spark plug to the center terminal of the plug?? The voltage may be correct but the direction of the current flow may weeken the spark at the plug end.
