Positive or negative ground doesn't matter to as long as your consistant. When converting to twelve volt most people use a GM Delco one wire alternator with internal diodes. These are set up for a negative ground system, hence the need to change over the tractor. All modern cars use negative ground and it has no effect on spark strength. By the way, coils have a positive and negative terminal, too. Alot of times this connection is not reversed as it should be.
