I don't pretend to be a mechanical engineer, and I never indicated I am. What I do know is this. As a practical matter, as the amount of HP a clutch is designed to transmit increases, the gross surface area of the clutch increases. This is true of any style of clutch, single or multiple disc, wet or dry. This fact tells me that surface area is part of the equation. Having letters after one's name is not a requirement for posting here, but the ability to admit to a factual error does help. I stand by my original post, as you have not offered anything to substantially counter my experience and observations of machines designed by those with a better grasp of mechanical engineering than either of us have.
