M and B questions

I have the live hyd. pump out of my M on the workbench. I need to open it to take the gears out. How do I keep the shaft still so I can turn
the nut on the end off?

Also, I have to put a rebuilt mag for our spare B. How do I time the engine correctly? Are there marks on the crank pulley like an M?
